Air traffic noise
To the editor:
Recently, I had the unfortunate opportunity in trying to resolve an issue of increased air traffic noise over the Orange Gardens subdivision due to flight training schools. After speaking with neighbors and going through the many channels to resolve this issue, I came up with the no resolution to the problem. The lesson we learned is that business takes precedent over the needs and well being of its residents and the city simply does not care.
Look around you, there are many wonderful projects ongoing in the city of Kissimmee and then I drive through some neighborhoods and see streets that are in disrepair, while other major roadways are in progress. Then we come to the Kissimmee Gateway Airport, which leveled the ball fields on Thacker Avenue, and will use for future business sites. This was a place where all the inner city children and adults had an opportunity to play but, once again, business over the needs of its residents.
For the people who have lived here many years and have always enjoyed a quality of life, hold on to what little is left.

Medicare changes
To the editor:
For 2011, there is one very important difference in the dates to make plan changes. In the past you could select a plan between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31. Then, if you did not like that choice you could choose another plan between Jan. 1 and March 31. “Lock-in” began April 1.
In 2011, that changes. “Lock-in” begins Jan. 1. Many seniors did not carefully examine the plan and prescription change documents mailed to them in October. As beneficiaries discovered changes they did not like many would simply make a plan change in the January through March period. Beginning Jan. 1, 2011, the only option will be to return to original Medicare and with the option to buy a prescription drug plan. And that option will end Feb. 15, 2011.
What should you do? If you are having difficulty understanding your new plan documents you should call your agent for a full explanation. Be sure to check on any prescriptions that may have been dropped from your plan formulary. You may be required to pay full price for them if this happens. Also, if your financial situation warrants, you may be eligible for low income subsidy or some level of  Medicaid.
