St. Cloud is putting out a call to residents of the community — and even those just passing through — to submit their best “Life in St. Cloud” photographs.
The St. Cloud Greater Osceola Chamber of Commerce is asking anyone who can press a camera button while focusing on what life is like in St. Cloud to share their work for possible use in their two publications — the annual St. Cloud directory and map.
This is the first time the chamber has asked the community to submit photos. Previously, the chamber worked with established local photographers.
The publications carrying the photos will list the photographer’s name – on page 2 of the directory and at the bottom of the map cover. The city of St. Cloud is a co-sponsor for the production of the map cover.
“Part of our mission statement is promoting and preserving our quality of life. This is one of the ways we can reach out to the community to participate with us,” Madelyn Long, membership/sales manager with the chamber, said. “This is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase local talent and for the winner(s) to become a part of St. Cloud’s history; these maps and directories are collectors’ items and are even showcased in our local museum.”
Although there is no monetary award connected with the photos being published, those chosen for the publications will have write-ups about their achievement in local newspapers and the Chamber Insider newsletter. The chamber also is planning to post a number of photographs received during its St. Cloud Reel Life, set for March 5.
The directory is published for every winter/spring and the map is published for every spring/summer.
According to Long, a graphic artist who works with the chamber assembles the publications. Between 8,000 and 10,000 copies are produced and placed at business offices, city offices and hand-delivered to all businesses belonging to the chamber. There also are many copies at the chamber.
The deadline for getting entries to the chamber is 4 p.m. Nov. 1. Staff at the chamber will accept photos that are e-mailed or on a disk. If brought into the chamber, photographers can ask for Long. If e-mailing – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it – photos should be 300 dpi and saved as a .jpg or .tif
The photographer submitting the work does not necessarily have to be from St. Cloud. The picture-taker can be “anyone from within our community or just visiting St. Cloud,” Long said.
“We really want to have an understanding of how citizens see our city – what is important to them, what is beautiful to them,” Long said. “And if they show us how they see St. Cloud through a lens, then that’s something we can share with everyone within our community.”
Previous covers have depicted the lakefront, downtown area, city hall, the Chamber of Commerce, porches of St. Cloud, Fourth of July, Christmas parade, education of children and the acknowledgement of veterans, firefighters and police.
“We hope to receive what others see St. Cloud to be,” Long said.
For more information, contact Long at 407-892-3671.
