St. Cloud Mayor Donna Hart proclaimed Oct. 3-9 as Fire Prevention Week in St. Cloud during a regular council meeting Sept. 23.
“Fire is a serious public safety concern and people are at the greatest risk from home fire-related injury and death,” Hart said. “In roughly two-thirds of fire death cases in the home, no smoke alarm or no working smoke alarm was present. St. Cloud residents are encouraged to take personal responsibility to in-crease their safety from fire, especially in their own homes. I urge all St. Cloud residents to protect their homes and families by heeding the potentially lifesaving messages of Fire Prevention Week.”
The 2010 Fire Prevention Week theme is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!” and the theme is meant to remind everyone of a simple action that can be taken to prevent fires year-round. It is recommended that at least one smoke alarm be placed on every level of a home — the most important locations would be near bedrooms to provide early warning while residents are sleeping.
City of St. Cloud is committed to ensuring the safety and security of city residents and visitors. The city of St. Cloud’s Fire Rescue personnel are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries and deaths through prevention and proper education.
