We interrupt this week’s DVD review for the following announcement: You’ve got one last chance to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast  on the big screen today (Saturday, Oct. 2) in a special sing-along event.

It’s the first time in nearly two decades that the Disney classic returns to the big screen and the audience will be able to sing along to favorites such as “Be Our Guest,” “Beauty and the Beast” and more.

Tickets are available at www.Fathomevents.com. Beauty and the Beast will be shown locally at AMC Pleasure Island 24 at noon.

If you miss the screening, the Beauty and the Beast combo Blu-ray DVD Diamond Edition will be released Tuesday. Review to come.

We now return you to the  regularly scheduled DVD review column.

Russell Brand and Jonah Hill are the two main reasons to see Get Him to the Greek on DVD/Blu-ray, an outlandish comedy about an aspiring record company intern (Hill) trying desperately to get an out-of-control/yesteryear rock star to a one-night concert in Los Angeles from London in just three days.

The task might not seem that difficult except Aldous Snow (the rock star) insists on partying every step of the way.

Get Him to the Greek is a spinoff, with Brand reprising his Aldous Snow role from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Hill in the new role of Aaron Green. Brand is perfect as the long-haired rocker whose career pretty much died after his last release, the universally loathed African Child. Watch the video in the movie.  You will understand the loathing.

The unlikely pair create havoc and laughs as they make their way from London with stops on the Today show and Las Vegas before finally making it to L.A.

There are some sentimental moments in the film which also stars Sean Combs, Rose Byrne and Elisabeth Moss.

Available in 2-disc Blu-ray, 2-disc DVD collector’s edition and single disc DVD (Universal Studios Home Entertainment).

Bonus features on the Blu-ray include additional and extended scenes; karaoke (you can actually sing along to 15 of the outrageous songs from the film); the actual auditions from Byrne, Moss and others in the cast.

The Blu-ray also includes an instant access streaming movie bonus: your choice of one of three comedies: Uncle Buck, Dazed and Confused or Life.

The 2-disc sets feature additional bonuses including a gag reel, The Making of “African Child” documentary; Getting Him to the Greek  Documentary; and deleted, extended and alternate scenes.

For a better Blu-ray experience pick up Babies (Universal Studios Home Entertainment).

If you love babies you will love this round-the-world look at four babies from newborn to their first steps.

French filmmaker Thomas Balmes traveled to Namibia, Mongolia, Tokyo and San Francisco capturing how babies and their parents vary around the world.

The exotic locales in Namibia and Mongolia of course, prove to be the most interesting, especially in Blu-ray, but this is a fascinating look from any angle.

There are nice contrasts — the Japanese and American babies are from upper middle class families, while the African and Asian infants, are literally dirt poor, but they don’t seem to be at much of a disadvantage. Their education, outside on Mother Earth, seems every bit as valuable as what their richer counter-parts get.

There is no narrative here,  nor even any translation, proving babies are universal.

Bonus features include The Babies — Three Years Later Featurette with the director revisiting the babies and their parents and Everybody Loves....Your Babies Sweepstakes Winners, winning photos and videos from fans of the film.

Hard to believe but House, one of TV’s more critically well received shows, has entered its seventh season, and now out on DVD/Blu-ray, is season six (Universal Studios Home Entertainment) of the acclaimed series.

This well-written series is great if you love medical mysteries, but it also features a complex cast of characters with their own story lines, none more difficult to wade through then Gregory House (John Laurie) himself.

Season six has 22 episodes, including the two-part opener where House has himself checked into a hospital for his Vicodin addiction.

House spends much of the season with his license suspended, but he is still very much in charge and calling the shots when he returns to work.

Guest stars for the season include James Earl Jones playing an African dictator who falls ill while visiting America. Responsible for the deaths of thousands in his homelands, he suffers an untimely death at the hands of House’s team, which, of course, makes for great additional storyline in other episodes during the season.

And after year’s of flirtation, House and his boss, Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) appear to be heading toward some kind of personal relationship by season’s end.

Season six is typical of House, good writing, strong characters and an excellent cast. Laurie has won several acting awards for his portrayal of the almost always disagreeable House.

Others in the cast include his best (and usually only friend) Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps) his second in command; and Jesse Spencer as Dr. Robert Chase.

Season six looks a lot better in Blu-ray than it did in its regular broadcast. And for fans of the show, the Blu-ray edition includes an exclusive bonus disc featuring more than 45 minutes of Q & A from the cast and crew.

Both the Blu-ray and standard DVD editions include feature commentaries on three episodes; and several featurettes including A Different POV: Hugh Laurie Directs (he directed the episode “Lockdown”);  and New Faces in New House, the difficulties of hiring 30 new actors in pivotal roles on the show.
