It’s alright to look over the artist’s shoulder at the third Celebration Art & Wine Stroll set for Saturday, Sept. 18, from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

The Artists of Celebration and Lexin Realty will host the stroll on Market Street at the Square as local artists open their easels and invite onlookers to watch as they create oil paintings, charcoal sketches, watercolors, jewelry, knitted textiles and more.

Meryl Rachlin is president of the artist’s group and organizer of the event. She said she is hoping 40 artists will be on hand to show what they are doing.

“Most of the work will be for sale,” she said. “We want the strolls to be in an open atmosphere so the visitors can get close to a working artist. We have about 60 artists who live in the Celebration area on our mailing list and hope to have at least 40 of them with us this time.”

Participating restaurants will offer their favorite wines to buy and enjoy while patrons visit the artists and listen to live musical performances, she said.

There will be a special area for children to create some art as well as representation from art students at Celebration High School to showcase their talents. The High School Jazz Band will be on hand to provide music during the first hour of the stroll.

“The Celebration Art & Wine Stroll gives the artists a chance to connect with the community, each other and visitors while delving into what we love,” said Rob Kaz, a resident of Celebration and one of the participating artists. “Most of our artists are interested in a venue where they can show their work,” Rachlin said. “I hope we can build the numbers of the group so we can continue to pursue other types of art events and projects in the community.”

“My long term dream is for Celebration to have a Creative Continuing Arts Center, where the locals in and around the community can take and give classes within all the art forums. That would include creative writing, music, theater, and cooking along with the visual arts.”

The Artists of Celebration meet at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the Community Center. Rachlin can be contacted at merylsmurals@ comcast.net.

The group plans on sponsoring the art strolls every quarter in the downtown area of Celebration. The next one, she said, is tentatively set for February.
