St. Cloud Police Department’s communications operators Harry Salaman-Bird and Jeff Moyer earned the city of St. Cloud Employee of the Month Award for July.
Both were recognized during a regular council meeting at City Hall Sept. 9.
As communications operators, Salaman-Bird and Moyer are part of St. Cloud’s emergency services system and are responsible for receiving and transmitting emergency services messages. They were recognized for their efforts during a recent 911 call where they identified a registered felon with a criminal history that included battery on law enforcement officers.
“These operators worked together during this call to locate information and communicated well with one another with very minimal information available to them,” Communications Supervisor Nadine Zilke said. “I would like to recognize these telecommunicators for their excellent teamwork, use of resources and ability to quickly and seamlessly locate the pertinent information to provide to law enforcement officers, including advising them to use extreme caution due to the subject’s history of violence with law enforcement. If not for their effort and determination to locate the information, this situation could have resulted in a tragic ending for both citizens and law enforcement.”
Salaman-Bird has been a city employee for almost six years and Moyer has been an employee for two-and-a-half years.
Pollution Prevention Week proclaimed
St. Cloud Mayor Donna Hart proclaimed the week of Sept. 20-26 as Pollution Prevention Week in St. Cloud during a regular council meeting Sept. 9.
“The city of St. Cloud supports a clean and safe environment for our residents,” Hart said. “Pollution prevention is an approach to environmental protection that focuses on prevention and is a preferable strategy for protecting our environment. I call upon each citizen and business to protect our precious environment by participating in local pollution prevention activities. By focusing attention on pollution prevention, the city of St. Cloud will meet the challenges of environmental protection and environmental regulation.”
Pollution Prevention Week is an opportunity for government, industry, and environmental organizations to recognize the potential of pollution prevention and to work together to plan for a prosperous and sustainable future. The city of St. Cloud’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program is managed by the city’s Civil Engineering Division. For more details on the program, visit http://www

4-H Week in St. Cloud proclaimed
St. Cloud Mayor Donna Hart proclaimed the week of Oct. 3-9 as 4-H Week in St. Cloud during a regular council meeting held at City Hall Sept. 9.
Aside from public schools, 4-H is the largest youth educational program in Florida for ages 5 to 18.
“The 4-H program, like many other youth groups, relies heavily on volunteers who are involved in nearly every aspect of the program,” Hart said. “As part of the 4-H experience, members are encouraged to learn about and contribute to the betterment of their communities. And 4-H uses a variety of community resources to enhance the educational experience of members. I urge our citizens of St. Cloud to learn more about 4-H and to become more involved as members, club leaders, or volunteers.”
The program’s four Hs represent ways youth can grow and develop:
• Head — Mental Development: deeper knowledge and reasoning
• Heart — Emotional Development: Developing interest, appreciation and wholesome attitudes
• Hands — Skills Development: Ability to do, skill in doing and habit of doing
• Health — Physical Development: Understanding and appreciating a growing and changing body
