The city of St. Cloud’s newsletter — Dateline — will be published monthly in
the Osceola News-Gazette’s Around St. Cloud section for 12 months starting Oct. 7.
The City Council agreed during the Sept. 9 regular council meeting with a 3-2 vote to publish the Dateline in the Osceola News-Gazette on the first Thursday of every month in its St. Cloud section. This section is specifically aimed at the St. Cloud community – it has a circulation of 22,000 and a readership of 50,600 and in the city’s last survey, 68 percent of St. Cloud residents said they use the Osceola News-Gazette to get their information about St. Cloud.
The city requested quotes from the Orlando Sentinel, Osceola News-Gazette, and St. Cloud In The News June 7 for the publishing of the newsletter. After all three quotes were received by the July 23 deadline, City Manager Tom Hurt reviewed all three, taking into consideration quality, price, distribution and the true intent of the Dateline, which is to help in keeping residents informed. Hurt’s recommendation was largely based on the quotes submitted.
“We definitely need to ensure that we do everything within our power to help keep our citizens informed and the Dateline is one of the most valuable tools we have because we are able to communicate directly with our citizens,” Hurt said.
“The option to publish the Dateline in one full-page, tabloid-sized insertion for $650 does not fulfill the needs of the Dateline; less information would be available to our citizens. We have been publishing the Dateline in the St. Cloud In The News for the last two years mainly because the publisher was the lowest bidder. That was not the case this year. We appreciate all local publications and newspapers’ staff members for their support in helping keep our citizens informed.”
