Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies Sept. 9 arrested Jason Carter, 35, of 505 Del Shasta Way, Poinciana, and charged him with child neglect after he failed to report he injured his son with a car.

The child was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center. A doctor observed red abrasions on his leg and what appeared to be tire tread marks on his thigh. He was treated for minor injuries and released to his mother’s care.

Deputies brought in Carter for questioning and he told deputies he was driving his two children to school and that they may have seen the bus at the bus stop and attempted to exit the truck before it came to a complete stop.

Carter told deputies he turned around and saw the open truck door and his son lying on the ground. Carter indicated his son was not crying and did not appear injured so he placed him on the bus. He told deputies he contacted the school to let them know his son might have hurt his knee and to call him if he needed to go home early. Carter also told deputies he came home from work several hours before and drank beer before taking his children to the bus stop.

Based on the information and evidence, deputies arrested Carter and charged him with child neglect. The Department of Children and Families was notified.
