Kissimmee Utility Authority employees are wearing blue jeans to assist families in need during the current economic crisis.
Since January, utility employees have raised nearly $6,000 to benefit the utility’s Good Neighbor Energy Fund, an energy assistance program for KUA customers. The fund helps pay utility bills for customers experiencing temporary financial difficulties, such as sudden illness, unexpected unemployment, or an emergency or personal crisis.
The money was raised through the sale of special badges, which permit employees to dress down in blue jeans on designated workdays. All participants receive a special badge to show their support and to raise awareness of the fund. Employees have raised additional funds through bake sales, employee breakfasts and raffles.
The Good Neighbor Energy Fund relies solely on employee and customer donations. Contributions are tax deductible and 100 percent of the money raised goes directly to benefit customers in need.
To make donations go even further, KUA matches dollar-for-dollar each individual donation to the fund. Details on the fund are available online at http:// www.kua.com/Community/Programs/GoodNeighbor.aspx.
Last year, the fund raised nearly $39,000.
