August in Poinciana is always a good time to think nice cool thoughts. There are two festivals coming up — one in October, the other in November. If you are a vendor, now is the time to book your space and prepare for Florida fall.
The first in Poinciana is the Fourth Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival, set for Sunday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Vance Harmon Park, 690 Country Club Road. Last year, this event drew nearly 13,000 people and this year’s event promises even more. Several well-known artists will perform at the festival. Ismael Rivera, Mancho Rivera and Yolanda Rivera are already booked.
This is a tremendous opportunity for vendors. Applications are available for food, drink, arts and crafts and merchandise vendors. Business and non-profit organizations may rent a space. There also is space available for political candidates. Electricity is available for food and drink merchants who need it.
Price per booth space varies. October is Hispanic Heritage month and this is a fun way to participate. For more information, call Myriam Santiago, 407-535-7768 or Joey Mollfulleda, 407-301-3659.
The annual Fall Festival at Solivita will be Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a terrific way to start your holiday shopping. This festival offers merchants who sell arts/crafts, paintings, jewelry, handbags, holiday decorations, plants, photography and more.
Vendors and artisans are urged to rent booth space. A 10-by-10 outdoor space is available for $50 or an indoor 10-by-10 space for $100. The deadline to register is Friday, Sept. 3. For more information and to register, call Solivita Lifestyles, 863-427-7125.

Enough cool thoughts, now back to reality. The reality is we are in the middle of hurricane season. If you lived in the area in 2004, Charley, Frances and Jeanne are forever in your mind. Those hurricanes made us realize we are vulnerable.
Central Florida Executive Landscaping, owned and operated by David Awad, specializes in hurricane preparedness. Awad’s home suffered damage during 2004 and he knows what can happen. Tree limbs can become projectiles and cause major damage. It is important to be proactive.
Central Florida Executive Landscaping is offering a 10-percent discount to Poinciana residents. It also offers 24-hour emergency service. For more information, call 407-350-8970 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Hopefully, the season will leave us unscathed. That 10-percent discount can be applied to koi ponds, waterfalls and landscape lighting. Central Florida Executive Landscaping does that, too.

Kiss-Me with Spoken Word Youth Academy will begin its fourth year Thursday, Sept. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Poinciana Community Center.
Youth in grades K-12 are welcome to join this group. It meets weekly and works on reciting poetry, short stories, commercials and other things that help build on vocabulary skills. In this atmosphere, kids have a good time while learning.
Kiss-Me with Spoken Word is free. Spend a couple of hours mid-week enhancing your child’s education.

Question of the Week

Are the theme park tickets too expensive these days?
