Logo controversy

To the editor:

In reference to the city election in August or November concerning the vote on whether to add “In God We Trust,” to the city logo, I myself am a Christian, but here is food for thought:

First, it will cost taxpayers’ money to make the change to stationery, police cars, manhole covers, garbage containers, city utility vehicles, etc.

Second, then the probability that American Civil Liberties Union will sue on the grounds of separation of church and state, that will cost taxpayer money for lawyers.

Third, if ACLU wins, then there’s the cost of taxpayer money to remove the logo.

The money could be used to a better advantage and surely a more dignified way to honor God.

Suggestion: A big five-point star hanging over Main Street during Christmas holidays. Almost everyone would recognize the star represents Christ’s birth, the center of Christmas. Orlando has had a beautiful star over Orange Avenue downtown for many years.

Christmas and 4th of July are national holidays, so far the ACLU can’t fight national holiday displays, but why with the economy as it is, is it necessary to do anything? Who really pays attention to a logo?
