With the goal of raising funds to support the recruitment of Big Brothers and Big Sisters for area kids, the third annual All In For Kids Texas hold’em tournament will be Saturday, Oct. 16, at The Vue - Downtown, 150 E. Robison, Orlando.
Benefiting site-based and traditional programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida, the event begins at 6 p.m. and features of music, gaming, food, drinks and prizes.
“This year, we know this event will be bigger and better, allowing us to help more children,” Jennifer Rider, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida, said. “The lives and futures of kids truly can be changed by spending just a few hours a month with their assigned ‘big’ – an adult who volunteers to spend time with a ‘little’ – either in the classroom or in the community.”
Guests will enter a modern and new venue overlooking Lake Eola, be entertained by a DJ, enjoy food and drinks and or play in a Texas hold’em tournament. Final table players will have the chance to win prizes like a trip to Vegas with airfare and golf and spa outings. Last year’s winner won a seat to the 2010 World Series of Poker. Players can donate $150 or take advantage of the early bird specials, $75-$100 donations, by registering online at www.bbbscfl.org or by calling Big Brothers Big Sisters at 407-478-2996.
The annual tournament supports the screening and training of adults for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida’s four types of programs in Osceola, Orange, Seminole, Brevard and Lake counties that assist youth in achieving their highest potential as they grow to become young men and women.
In the traditional program, an adult is paired one-on-one with a child, age 6-14, for a few hours each week in the community.
For school and site-based programs, a working adult visits a child at school or during afterschool care for about an hour per week.
The Big Couples program matches married couples with one little brother.
