Marydia meeting tonight

The community of Marydia will hold a neighborhood meeting tonight at 7 p.m. with state Sen. Gary Siplin, R-Orlando, Osceola County Commissioner Ken Smith and Osceola County Sheriff Bob Hansell scheduled to attend, along with residents and community leaders.

The agenda includes community safety issues and an update on the park and community center. Siplin plans to present school supplies to the children of the community in preparation for their return to school.

The meeting, to be at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 2911 Tampa Ave., Kissimmee, is one of many this north Kissimmee community has held in the past two years since being chosen by the Osceola County Health Department’s PACE-EH program. PACE-EH (protocol for assessing community excellence in environmental health) is a program that was developed to help communities to expand or improve the health and safety of their communities. Its aim is to develop and involve community partners to accomplish improvements.

The Marydia community was chosen due to its environmental factors, below-average socio-economic factors and overall poor conditions. Since then, the community has seen new road construction and sidewalks, neighborhood cleanup and demolition of crack houses.
