Ax it

To the editor:

You definitely are entitled to your opinion just like I’m entitled to mine. You show a lot of concern about the Osceola County Commission getting the vote out to the people of Osceola County. Why didn’t the commission show the same concern about putting the BVL incorporation on the ballot so that the people could decide on that?

The people of BVL should have had that option. Is it because the only thing the commission likes to see on the ballot are things they like to see passed? After looking further into this matter, I can now understand why Fred Hawkins Jr. voted the way he did. When your constituents are calling you and telling you to let the voters decide, then, as a commissioner you have no other way of going in an unpopular situation.

But really, how hypocritical is that? Let’s do what Washington does. No matter what the polls say or the people want makes no difference. We, the majority of the people, don’t want healthcare shoved down our throats, don’t want any more bailouts and definitely don’t want any more taxes. Just like Washington doesn’t listen, the Osceola County Commission doesn’t listen either. Ignoring the voices of its people is never a good thing.

We here at Ax the Tax are concerned with one thing only and that’s: “No more taxes!” Is that so hard for this present commission to understand?

With this economic recession looming and no sign of relief, it really takes a lot of nerve to even suggest a tax increase. Let’s add more on our plate with the choo-choo to nowhere.

Let’s take more out of our seniors’ fixed incomes, from our unemployed and from whatever we have left of our work force in this county.

I repeat, if the one-penny surtax doesn’t mean that much, then let’s make it fair. Put on a decrease of one penny and see which one would win. Maybe it’s because this commission knows that if it were placed on the ballot, the people’s voices would finally be heard.
