Wheeler named Boys and Girls Club board chairman

Osceola County School Board Member Jay Wheeler has been appointed as the new chairman of the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club Osceola County.
Wheeler will provide leadership to the organization as it works to fulfill its mission to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring residents.
“It is a great honor and privilege to serve in this capacity, as it reaffirms my long-standing commitment to quality after-school programs to keep children out of trouble and in school, not in jails and maternity wards,” Wheeler said.
Gary Cain, president of the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, said Wheeler was a passionate advocate of helping children both in and out of school.
“He will help us to work collectively as one to continue offering the highest level of service and vital core youth development programs in Osceola County,” he said.
Superintendent Michael Grego also praised Wheeler.
“It is always great to see our School Board members serve throughout the community as advocates for students outside the school day,” he said.
