The city of Kissimmee Public Information Office has produced a hurricane guide to help residents weather the storm. The city encourages the public to get ready and be prepared for hurricane season, ending on Nov. 30.
The hurricane guides are available in the first-floor lobby of Kissimmee City Hall, 101 N. Church St., in downtown Kissimmee. The books also will be available at the Hurricane Preparation Expo at the Kissimmee Civic Center Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Kissimmee Hurricane Guide takes residents through the planning and preparation stages and lists the various ways to stay informed with the latest local news. This guide also maps out what should be done before, during and after the storm. Whether residents plan to evacuate or seek shelter in their home, the Kissimmee Hurricane Guide explains what each of the city departments need the public to do.
Most people are relieved when a hurricane strikes a town other than where they live. Anybody who has not experienced a hurricane or severe storm—especially if not prepared — do not know what it's like to have life turned upside down. The simplest things suddenly seem overwhelming and you don't know who to call first or what to do to get things back to normal. This hurricane guide will provide those details. The city works diligently to provide up-to-date information as a hurricane develops. The warnings issued by weather experts will be announced in time for citizens to get prepared and secure their property. As the ocean waters get warmer and tropical weather systems start to form, it's important to monitor the severe weather timelines.
