Kissimmee swimming

The city of Kissimmee Makinson Aquatic Center will begin accepting registration for child and adult swimming lessons today from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

Registration for sessions 5 (July 19-29) and 6 (Aug. 2-12) is on a first-come-first-served basis. The registration fee is $40 per session.

Lessons will be given Monday through Thursday for two-week intervals. Classes last 35 minutes and are offered either in the morning or afternoon.

The Makinson Aquatic Center is at 2204 Denn John Lane in Kissimmee.

Kissimmee Bay golf

Kissimmee Bay Country Club and Remington Golf Club are hosting junior summer golf camps through July.

Campers will receive personal instruction from PGA professionals. The camp focuses on fun just as much as it does golf instruction and etiquette.  Campers also will do crafts, learn how a cup on a green is made, play Tiger Woods Wii golf and watch movies.  Session 3 is scheduled for July 26-29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Celebration hoops

Celebration High Coach Jeff Bean will host the Storm Basketball Camp Aug. 2-4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the gym.

The co-ed camp is for children in grades 1-8 for the 2010-11 school year.

The fee is $70, which includes a daily snack and T-shirt. Spaces are limited.

PHS football camp

Poinciana High football coach Michael Timpson will hold the Eagle Football Camp for children ages 7-18 next Monday through Friday.

An additional camp is July 26-30.

The camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $100 per week. Half-day camps run from 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m. for a fee of $50.

Players should bring shorts, T-shirts, cleats and sneakers and lunch.

The non-contact camp stresses fundamentals, specific position skills and conditioning plus instructions on teamwork and life skills. Campers also will participate in other sports, such as basketball, softball and kickball.

GOU registration

Greater Osceola United Soccer Club is holding registration for the fall season for both recreational and competitive teams at the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex located at 4100 Boggy Creek Road.

Registrations are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. through July.

All new players need to provide a birth certificate for age verification. GOU accepts boys and girls ages 4-18.

Kissimmee sports camps

The city of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following sports camps during the month of July:

Start Smart Baseball teaches children ages 3-5 the basic motor skills necessary to play organized baseball. The program focuses on throwing, catching, batting and agility without the threat of competition. This program meets at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex Tuesdays and Thursdays July 20 to Aug. 5 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The fee is $55. Registration deadline is Tuesday.

Osceola High baseball coach Nick James will hold a camp for boys ages 7-17 at the high school field Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon daily. The fee is $55.

The Kissimmee Golf Course camp July 26-30 teaches basic skills and and course etiquette. The camp is from 9 a.m. to noon daily. The fee is $95.

Players age 8-17 are grouped by ability and receive a free video swing analysis, T-shirt, unlimited range balls and daily course play.

Players will participate in a tournament and awards luncheon.

Register by July 23.

Harmony FB, cheer

Harmony Youth Football & Cheer will have a mandatory weigh-in Friday at Greensides beginning at 6 p.m. Players should wear shorts and flip flops.

Opening day festivities begin July 31. Practice starts Aug. 1, with a Kickoff Classic slated for Aug. 21.

Mystic Dunes golf

Mystic Dunes Resort and Golf Club is holding the Fourth Annual Red, White and Blue Invitational July 18.

A portion of the proceeds from the four-man scramble golf tournament goes to The Wounded Warrior Project for disabled veterans.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start. An awards banquet and barbeque follows the tournament.

KSA swimming

The Kissimmee Swimming Association is accepting new swimmers.

Swimmers must be at least age 5 who can swim freestyle and backstroke. KSA also is accepting swimmers age 18 or older for its masters program.
