Suggestion to save money
To the editor:

Once again talk is of laying off much-needed fire personnel and closing stations.

May I make a suggestion?

Let the number-crunchers figure out how much money might be saved, if, on a medical call, only an ambulance responded, instead of an ambulance and a fire truck.

Does it make sense to send a pumper or ladder truck on a medical call for a broken arm?

Has anyone ever thought about fuel costs, wear and tear on the vehicles and repairs due to needless responses, in addition to taking the engine away when a call might come in from elsewhere?

Granted, for a true emergency, such as an accident, cardiac or stroke, extra hands might be needed, but can't some kind of criteria for engine response be established?

It may save money and also jobs.

Traffic laws are being violated
To the editor:

God bless Beth Hurst. This is in regard to her concern for those who care not one iota about traffic laws. First, it’s not just Clyde Avenue. It’s the whole city.

Having lived in Osceola County my entire life, this particular situation has gone from “bad to very horrific” period. It’s more than high time the city of Kissimmee Police Department step up to the plate. The reason these problems occur every day is violators know they can do it and have no regard for the law. Bottom line is the city of Kissimmee has a reputation for the police department not cracking down. Therefore, a sense of road lawlessness prevails.

Get these people off our streets now. If they have to pay fines, so be it. I have seen far too may major accidents in good weather occur for my liking and I am sure for the majority of the city’s residents.

This issue has gone unaddressed for far too long. The question is: “When will it be resolved?”
