The purpose of any school district's professional development is to enhance classroom instructional strategies that promote rigor throughout the curriculum and increase student achievement.
As such, the Osceola County School District has developed an aggressive summer professional development schedule offering close to 500 workshops for pre-kindergarten through grade 12 teachers, assistants and administrators this summer.
Preparation for summer professional development included district and school staff analysis of student achievement data, student needs and school improvement plans.
Inservice activities will focus on, but not be limited to such areas as: giftedness, differentiated instructional strategies, reading and writing in the content areas, integrated use of classroom technology, classroom management, advanced placement including AVID strategies, and the Math Next Generation Sunshine State Standards.
“Offering this large amount of professional development over the summer months is an investment in our teachers and employees,” Superintendent Michael A. Grego said.
“There is no better predictor of a quality, high-achieving school district than teacher effectiveness. The summer months will be used to strengthen the district's efforts to provide the necessary support for teachers in the classroom.”
