Sierra Dombayci, 17, of St. Cloud, was presented with the Congressional Silver Medal by Congressman Bill Posey at Valencia Community College’s Osceola Campus on June 3.
The Congressional Award is a program for young adults age 14 to 24. There are six levels of awards and each level includes four personal challenge areas.
To earn the medal, Sierra logged more than 300 hours of community service as a teen attorney in the Osceola Teen Court Program, for which she also earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award. For her personal development goal, she attended the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps Petty Officer Leadership Academy at Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Va. She also wrote and followed her own physical fitness program for the physical fitness requirement and went on a three-day canoe and primitive camping trip at Canaveral National Seashore, where she learned navigation skills, self sufficiency, and studied the local flora and fauna for the Exploration portion of the award.
Sierra is a 2010 home-schooled high school graduate who has earned 16 college credits through the dual enrollment program at Valencia Community College. She is a petty officer in the USNSCC Seawolf  Division, an AP Scholar and is employed by the Littlefield Law Group in Kissimmee. She will be attending St. John’s College-Annapolis, Md., in the fall and is currently working toward her Congressional Gold Medal.
