A Kissimmee attorney, arrested Tuesday on charges of grand theft and fraudulent use of credit cards, can still practice law, according to a legal representative with the Florida Bar Association.

The representative, who works in the bar association’s legal division, said Linda Littlefield, at this time, remains in good standing with the group and has had no previous disciplinary action taken against her to prevent her from practicing.

The association official, who would not give her name or title, said Littlefield herself must report to the association in writing the offenses she is being accused of, which is normal procedure, and can still practice law until a review leads to a suspension or disbarment.

Littlefield, 38, who was admitted to the Florida Bar in September of 2004, has been charged with bilking a widow out of about $54,000 for online purchases of various extravagant items, such as a vacation in Cancun and new office furniture.

The attorney was freed from Osceola County Jail Wednesday morning after posting a $2,000 bond. County spokesman Larry Krause Jr. said she must wear a court-ordered ankle bracelet monitoring device, which allows her to go no farther from her residence (except for work time) than a specified distance before an alarm alerts authorities. Another jail official confirmed the attorney had to surrender her passport after being deemed a flight risk.

The bar review of Littlefield and her alleged actions will be reviewed by the branch bar council in Orlando, the association official said. If there is probable cause to pursue disbarment, the bar representative said the matter could be taken to the Florida Supreme Court.

Detectives began their investigation Feb. 16 when the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint against Littlefield, an attorney with Littlefield Law Group in Kissimmee.

The alleged victim, identified as Janet Lentz, told deputies that four years ago, in February of 2006, she contacted Littlefield’s law firm to set up a trust to acquire Medicaid for her husband, Eugene, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Several months later, the victim said, the trust was established with $40,000. At that time, police said, Littlefield told members of the Lentz family they would need to surrender their credit cards and monthly bills so she could pay the balance from the trust fund.

In February of 2009, Eugene Lentz passed away. Last January, Janet Lentz began receiving credit card statements for one of the credit cards, with the balance being $14,924.14, but the victim told investigators she gave Littlefield the cards in 2006 with a zero balance. Detectives discovered Littlefield made five unauthorized charges totaling $53,793.62 on all of the credit cards, with all purchases made online for new office furniture and a trip to Cancun in July of 2008. Detectives report Littlefield used $7,900 from the trust account to pay some of the balances on the credit cards.

Last week, Littlefield met with detectives and told them the credit card charges were made by mistake. The online transactions, police said, required the use of the victim's husband's name, address and a security code.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into Littlefield’s activities, spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said, adding that anyone who feels they were victimized by the attorney, should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222 or Crimeline at 1-800-TIPS (8477).

Littlefield also has a law office in Lakeland.

Rick, the "late American publisher" who made the comment quoted was E.W. Scripps. He also wrote: "The lawyers are known to be liars. They know they are known to be liars. They constantly practice falsehood and false pretense. From among these men we select our judges."!!

Good article Rick. Why don't you write about how lawyers punish themselves and don't fall under the same State run agencies controlling all other licensed professions? They always get a double standard of justice. Read words of Jesus in Luke 11:52 about lawyers and the chapter on lawyers in the bestseller book "How to Avoid Probate" by Norman Dacey (at your pulic library). Late American publisher referred to lawyers as having a "legal caste" because they dominate and run all 3 branches of gov't and both major political parties. He wrote: "If there is such a thing as true freedom and democracy then the road to that goal lies over and through the ruin and annihilation of the legal caste."!!
