A local man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Sunday after he attacked a woman he was with and their two young children at a Kissimmee motel where they were staying.

At about 1:52 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Oasis Inn, 4736 W. U.S. Highway 192, and spoke with several witnesses and the victim, who indicated the suspect, identified as Jaime Lee Diggs, 32, battered her and their two young sons, ages 18 months and 3 years old.

Sheriff’s Office reports did not list the couple’s relationship.

The victim told deputies that Diggs was acting strangely, seemed unfocused and was not making sense earlier in the day. Several hours before the incident, he asked her to take him to the hospital but did not explain why, according to Sheriff’s Office reports. He then changed his mind and said he needed sleeping pills. After returning to the motel with the pills, Diggs left again for a long period of time.

The mother and her children went to look for him and found Diggs in front of a pawn shop a short distance away. When they got back to the motel, Diggs refused to let them go back into the room and began a physical confrontation in the parking lot. Witnesses told deputies they heard the couple arguing and saw Diggs strike the woman numerous times in the face. They also saw Diggs throw both children and strike them numerous times in the head, reports said.

Several of the witnesses were able to restrain Diggs until law enforcement arrived. The two children were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital with head injuries and the female victim was transported to Celebration Hospital with minor injuries. Diggs was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center for injuries he suffered during the incident.

He was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery. The Department of Children and Families was notified and the children were listed in stable condition at the hospital. The female victim was released from Celebration Hospital.
