Ashley Holman-Seth didn’t light up the scoreboard with points in a three- year varsity career at Osceola High, or wow a gym-full of fans with a highlight reel of plays.

All she had was her hard work, and it led to a scholarship.

Holman, who averaged three points, three rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in her senior season for the Kowgirls, signed a full scholarship with Enterprise State (Ala.) Community College.

The three-year varsity player will play in college mostly because of happenstance. Holman-Seth appeared on the highlight tape of teammate Sarah DiLeonardo and caught the eye of Enterprise Coach Doug Alexander. DiLeon-ardo signed with Brevard Community College, but Alexander made use of the tape anyway.

“I could see that when teams would trap Sarah, Ashley was there to take a pass. That showed her good court awareness,” he said. “I could also see she runs the court well and doesn’t get pressured or spooked in traps.”

Holman-Seth said he contacted her and im-pressed enough to invite her to a camp at the school just outside of Dothan.

“It was a surprise. I gave up on playing basketball in college, I was going to just focus on going to school and getting my Ph.D.,” she said. “I’ll still do that, but I have to thank Coach Alexander for seeing the basketball potential in me.”

OHS Coach Barner Cooks said Holman-Seth’s playing time this year was not indicative of her talent.

“She spent her career surrounded by All-stars, but she’s been a full-time contributor. She’s understood her role, and made this team better in practice,” he said. “When she played, she made plays for us.

“Many of her contributions to the program would never be seen in the stat sheet or by someone at a game. Hard work made this happen and as a coach that makes me real proud.”

Holman-Seth is pegged to play a small forward or wing role at Enterprise.

“I have a good shot, it’s my strength. I know I need to get stronger handling the ball, and that I have a lot of things to work on.”

Because of a heavy load of dual-enrollment credit, Holman-Seth will be able to get two degrees in her two years at Enterprise.

She reports to Enterprise, where Liberty High’s Hudson Cadet has already signed to the men’s program, in late July.

“And we’re going to work her from that moment,” Alexander said. “We’re going to put a little weight on her, but she’s going to be a contributor in her first year.”
