It was a senior year of transition for Hudson Cadet, but the Liberty High basketball player made the best of it and earned his reward – a basketball grant to Enterprise State College in Enterprise, Ala.
Cadet, 6-10, a track state qualifier in the high jump in addition to his basketball skill, moved to Kissimmee last summer from Lavonia, Mich., near Detroit.
“I actually was supposed to spend my senior year in Michigan with friends,” he said. “My parents were going to Haiti on a mission, but something happened that they couldn’t stay there, so when they came here I moved to Florida. It was difficult to leave during my senior year, but it turned out OK.”

Cadet, a forward in Detroit, shifted to center for Chargers basketball coach Anthony Crespo.
“They didn’t have any other big guys here, so that’s where I played,” he said. “It was all right. I like forward a little more, but I can play either position.”
Cadet will play forward at Enterprise under Coach Wesley Person. The school plays in the Alabama Community College Conference.
Cadet said he plans a brief stay at Enterprise with the goal of transferring to a four-year program.
“That’s what the coach has talked about,” Cadet said.
He did not lack for attention during the recruiting process.
“I probably had seven or eight offers, mostly from Division III and NAIA programs,” Cadet said. “I decided I’d rather do it this way and then transfer to a Division I school.”
Cadet, who cleared 6-4 in the high jump to qualify for the Class 4A state track meet, said he plans to study electrical engineering.
While he is leaving, there is a line of young Cadets forming to follow him through Liberty.
“I have one older brother and three younger ones,” he said. “One is a sophomore here, and he has some talent.”
