Stephen Durr

Durr

Stephen Durr, 38, a registered sexual offender from Illinois, was arrested Monday after he approached two girls staying in the Super 8 Motel in west Kissimmee where Durr also was staying but had not registered as required by state law, Osceola County Sheriff's Office reports state.

Durr was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration laws, a third-degree felony. The investigation began June 10 when a mother staying at the 4880 W. U.S. Highway 192 motel told deputies that a suspicious man approached her daughters, asking her 13-year-old daughter for a cigarette. Later in the evening, when the girls walked by his room, he asked them to come inside.

Detectives learned that Durr was a registered sex offender who listed his address as the Chateau Motel at 3818 W. Vine St. in Kissimmee. Managers at that motel told detectives that Durr never registered there.

Durr told detectives he checked into Motel 8 between May 28 and May 29. Sheriff's Office records show he registered at the Chateau Motel on May 25, stating he had just moved from Illinois. Because he did not register his address at the Motel 8 within 48 hours of moving, Durr was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail.

Durr was convicted of a sex offense on July 29, 2004 in Dekalb, Ill.
