Hunter White signed a letter of intent to the College of Mount St. Joseph with his family and Harmony administrators recently at the school’s media center.

Harmony safety Milton Bronson used modern methods to land a football scholarship.

Bronson posted a highlight video on his website that attracted the attention of the College of Mount St. Joseph football staff outside of Cincinnati.

He then told his friend, Harmony linebacker Hunter White, also a senior, about the program. White looked into the school and liked it so much that a recent signing ceremony at the high school turned into a package deal.

“They sent me an e-mail to see if I was interested in their program,” Bronson said. “They asked for my grades and my ACT score, and when I went up for my visit, I fell in love with the place.”

The Lions play in the NCAA Division III Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference under head coach Rod Huber. The school has an enrollment just under 2,300 students – not much larger than Harmony High School.

Milton Bronson, flanked by his parents, Debbie and Chuckie Bronson, landed a grant from the College of Mount St. Joseph through the Internet.

“I love the atmosphere there. It’s a small school, and when I visited it was like I was already one of their own, they treated me like I was family already,” Bronson said.

At 5-10, 185 pounds, Bronson said he would play strong safety for the Lions.

“It’s a two-safety system there, a little different than here where we had one safety and played a cover-3,” Bronson said. “Run support will be one of my big responsibilities.”

Bronson had 49 tackles, one interception and three fumble recoveries last season for the Longhorns.

His favorite memory from last season was the team’s victory over Bishop Moore.

“It was the first time we had beaten them during the regular season,” he said.

Bronson said this will be the first time he has lived in the snowbelt.

“I’ve never seen snow,” he said. “There’s a couple of guys from Florida up there already, and they said they liked it, except when it got really cold.”

White, a 6-2, 210-pound linebacker, led the Longhorns last year with 104 tackles, three caused fumbles and two interceptions. He said that the Lions' coaching staff projects him as an inside linebacker.

“They liked my size and speed. They said I'll be in line for some playing time this year,” he said. “When we visited, everyone there really welcomed us.'

White said he'd been in contact with some other out-of-state schools – Methodist (S.C.) and Waldorf (Iowa), along with Webber International in Lake Wales – so he had options.

But he feels he's made the best choice.

“I want to major in criminology, and do CSI work like you see on the shows, and they have a program for that,” he said. “It's all about getting an education.”
