The Kissimmee Police Department’s Traffic En-forcement Unit was recently presented with a sponsorship check from the Walmart store at 4444 W. Vine St.
As part of the store’s re-opening ceremony, store managers presented the unit with a check for $2,000 to assist the Keep ‘Um Safe programs.
Keep ‘Um Safe focuses on education on car seat safety and bicycle helmet safety. The program assists parents with the proper installation of car seats and inspects car seats to ensure they are fully functional. The program also stresses the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bike and teaches parents how to properly fit a helmet to a child’s head. In cases where a parent cannot afford a car seat or bicycle helmet, the unit will provide one for city residents.
“It is our job as adults to ensure our children are safe,” Chief Fran Iwanski said. “With partners like Walmart, the Kissimmee Police De-partment is able to ensure that parents have the proper education and equipment to do just that.”
Parents interested in having their car seat inspected for proper installation are urged to call the Kissimmee Police Department at 407-847-0176, Ext. 3267, to make an appointment.
