A 26-year-old St. Cloud business owner was killed on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County early Sunday morning after his Chevy pickup veered off the road and hit a tree, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

At around 2:10 a.m., Michael Eugene Alig, owner of Mike’s Auto Salon in St. Cloud, was driving south on the turnpike near State Road 417 when he veered onto the west shoulder and spun clockwise, hitting the mile 252.1 call box with the truck’s left side. The truck continued onto the grass shoulder into a very heavily wooded area.

The left side of the truck hit a tree, which spun it in the other direction. The truck stopped facing east of the tree line.

Alig, the only occupant of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Troopers have not ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
