Recently, the Osceola Classroom Teachers’ Association sponsored Read Across America. Athletes, dancers and honor students from every high school within the county left their home schools and went to 15 elementary schools to read in classrooms.
Osceola District schools administrators worked with chairperson Apryle Jackson to ensure that as many schools as possible could participate. More than 6,000 students celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday by either reading or hearing his books on this day.
The Cat in the Hat visited each of the 15 schools encouraging the elementary students to keep reading. The high school students emphasized the importance of doing well in school to be able to participate in after school activities.
They also encouraged students to do their best on the upcoming FCAT and to set goals for their education.
Before leaving, they passed out trading cards. On the cards, their pictures were on the front and on the back it gave information about each athlete.
