The score of Thursday’s spring game indicated a bad night for Harmony, a 38-14 loss to Daytona Beach Seabreeze in Ormond Beach.
Sandcrabs quarterback Trenton Norville threw for three touchdowns and 240 yards and turnovers stopped a pair of Harmony drives.
But, Longhorns Coach Dayne Brown said despite the score, it was a good outing for his team.
“I know people are going to look at that score and say that Harmony got smashed and they aren’t going to be very good, but I feel good about that game because we got done what we wanted to accomplish,” Brown said.
Brown said more than 80 Horns players got into the game.
“We wanted to see who could play,” Brown said. “We saw who the fighters are. We identified our depth. We saw some very good things out there, but we’re young and we had some misalignments. Those are things we can correct, though.”
Freshman quarterback Ryan Holstein filled in for Adam Harvey, who missed several practices due to injuries, Brown said.
“He showed some grittiness, a lot of toughness. That’s what we’re looking to see,” Brown said.
Freshman Austin Ocasio scored on a 60-yard touchdown run, and Christian Acevedo, running from the wildcat formation, also scored for the Longhorns.
“Seabreeze is a very good team, probably the best we’re going to see this year, but I’m glad we played them. That’s the type of team I want to play in the spring to help us get better,” Brown said. “We made some mistakes, but overall I liked what I saw.”
