Osceola County officials participated in the grand opening of the Kempfer Road Bridge.
The Kempfer Road Bridge is a 12-span timber structure over Jane Green Creek and is located 2.4 miles south of U.S. Highway 192. It replaces the old structure, which was found to be deficient during a Florida Department of Transportation safety in-spection.
According to county officials, this bridge is important since it enhances the county’s economic development by serving a citrus grower, a construction materials industry and a hunting camp. If the old bridge had been left in place, travelers would have been required to detour approximately 10 miles.Bridge construction began Feb. 10 and was scheduled to open a month later. Due to weather delays in both Osceola County and at the manufacturer’s construction site, the bridge was opened to traffic on March 25, within two weeks of the scheduled date. This was accomplished, county officials said, using an aggressive make-up schedule, which had the contractor working 10 to 12 hours per day for 26 consecutive days.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, Chairman Fred Hawkins, Jr. of the Osceola Board of County Commissioners thanked those involved with the project in ensuring the successful completion of the much-needed bridge.
