During a regular council meeting May 13 at City Hall, Mayor Donna Hart proclaimed the week of May 16-22 as Public Works Week in St. Cloud.
The purpose of the proclamation is to recognize those who provide and maintain infrastructure and services collectively known as public works and the importance of public works professionals within a community.
“The efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people’s attitude and understanding of the importance of the work these men and women perform,” Hart said. “I call upon all St. Cloud citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing our public works and to recognize the contributions that public works professionals make every day to our health, safety, comfort and quality of life.”
Nationally, Public Works Week is observed during the third full week in May every year. This year’s theme is “Public Works: Above, Below & All Around You.” The theme is focused on the public works professionals’ efforts and quality-of-life contributions they make to the communities they serve.
The city of St. Cloud Public Services’ Public Works Division is comprised of Civil Engineering, Solid Waste, Streets Department, Stormwater Utility, Traffic Control, Turf and Landscaping and Vehicle Maintenance. For more details on the Public Works Division, visit the Public Works Web page at www.stcloud.org or call 407-957-7344.
