Take your lunch break outdoors on Friday and see what’s good in the neighborhood.
Regions Bank on Cypress Parkway is celebrating Customer Appreciation Week by hosting a block party in the bank’s parking lot.
Confirmed vendors are NYPD Pizza, Pizza Hut, Wing Spot and Panda Express. Check out the wares from Hibbert Sports and Payless. Gather information from the Osceola County Health Department and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. See what’s new at Remax Pioneer Realty. There will even be a drawing with the winner receiving a special prize from Horse World.
The fun is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday. Stop by for lunch, shop a bit and maybe even open an account at this big bank with small town friendliness.
If you are a Poinciana resident who lives in Polk County, come to the Poinciana Community Center on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to hear facts on important county issues on the 2010 Polk election ballot. Be informed! The Poinciana Community Center is at 395 Marigold Avenue.

Make sure that your Memorial Day plans include remembering the reason for the holiday. There is a difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day. On Veterans Day, honoired are all who served in our nation’s military. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country.
The Poinciana Veterans Club will hold a 9 a.m. ceremony Monday, May 31, in front of the Association of Poinciana Villages Administration Veterans Memorial, 401 Walnut St. The Poinciana Veterans Club will lay a wreath at the monument followed by a flag folding ceremony by the Sea Cadets. The Sea Cadets also will hold a retirement of the flag ceremony.
The public is invited to this ceremony. In addition, if anyone has an American flag that is tattered or faded that they would like to retire properly, they may bring it with them.
This Memorial Day ceremony will only require a small amount of your time, but it may help to lend meaning and understanding to this important holiday.

On May 12, the Poinciana Area Council held its monthly meeting at Mosaics restaurant in Solivita. The message at this May meeting was education in Poinciana.
Every year, the Poinciana Area Council awards two $1,000 scholarships to deserving students who reside in Poinciana. For the first time, both scholarship winners were from Haines City High School.
Winner Krystal Blanco will go on to Boston University to obtain her batchelor of science degree masters and doctor of philosophy degree in biochemical engineering. Blanco is in the international  baccalaureate program at Haines City High School and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Winner Stephanie Feliciano hopes to obtain her degree in elementary education and go on to her masters in education administration. Feliciano will attend the University of Central Florida.
These winners were recognized at this luncheon. This well attended meeting also had in attendance the two school superintendents from both counties, Polk superintendent Gail McKinzie and Osceola Superintendent Michael Grego.
