Osceola sprinter Tynia Gaither won the 100 meters and the 200 meters championships Saturday at the Class 4A state track meet at Winter Park's Showalter Field, becoming the first female athlete from Osceola County to win two individual state titles at one meet. Gaither won the 100 meters championship last year.

She was the second county athlete to bring home gold after Harmony’s Chris Bolinger set a school record of 179-8 and won the discus championship Friday at the Class 3A state  meet at  Showalter Field.

Gaither, a sophomore, set personal and county records in winning the 100 (11.58) and 200 (23.57) championships. She anchored Osceola's 4 x 100 relay champion in 2009.

Bolinger, a senior, was the top seed in the event and became the first Harmony male to win a state track championship. He launched his winning throw on his last attempt. He was the only Harmony athlete at the meet.

Three Celebration athletes placed at the Class 3A meet.

Sophomore pole vaulter Jessica Harter jumped 10-6 to take fifth place. Four pole vaulters, including state champion Mallory Johnson of Stuart South Fork, jumped 11-0.

Tyler Osorio, a junior, placed fifth (49.47) at 400 meters for the Celebration boys and senior Marcus George (14.51) was sixth in the 110 meters hurdles.

St. Cloud senior Diana Martinez placed in two events: third (123-7) in the discus and eighth (37-8) in the shot put.

Celebration’s Chilly Cancela (11th in the triple jump), St. Cloud’s Luke Gardner (14th, 300 meters hurdles) and St. Cloud’s 4 x 800 relay (15th) also participated.

Pensacola Pine Forest (92) won the girls championship and Charlotte (48.5) took the boys title.

Harmony(10)  tied for 21st in the boys meet; Celebration (7) was 33rd.

St.Cloud (7) tied for 25th at the girls meet and Celebration (4) was tied for 36th.

At the 4A state meet, Osceola sprinter Defario Phillips (10.75) did not reach the finals of the 100 meters, placing 10th. Liberty High jumper Hudson Cadet did not place after a 6-4 effort.
