Osceola sprinter Tynia Gaither may have two more state championship medals to display at the Class 4A state track meet at Winter Park’s Showalter Field, which begins at 1 p.m. today. The running finals start at 6:30 p.m.
Gaither, the defending 100 meters champion, is seeded first at both 100 meters and 200 meters.

Gaither ran 10.61, a personal record, and won the regional championship at Showalter Field last week. She won the 200 meters regional title with a time of 23.97.
Gaither’s competition in the 100 includes senior Darshay Davis of Everglades, who won Region 3 in 11.64 seconds. At 200 meters, Southridge senior standout Ebony Eutsey ran 24.63 to win the Region 4 title.
OHS Coach Eric Pinellas said Gaither is capable of winning both events.
“In the 100, as long as she gets out of the blocks like she can and she doesn’t tighten up her stride, she’ll be fine. She is capable of 10.5s,” he said. “What’s made her better in the 200 is her strength and endurance. She has more footspeed than Eutsey, and we believe that endurance will help her as she comes out of the turn.”
Osceola senior Defario Phillips will compete in the boys 100 meters race at the state meet. Phillips ran 10.62 and was third at the regional race. Liberty senior high jumper Hudson Cadet, second at the regional at 6-4, is the only other Osceola County athlete competing today.
Eleven county athletes competed at the Class 3A state meet Friday.
