The Poinciana Area Council, which operates under the umbrella of the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce, began organizing the business and community leaders of Poinciana to determine the best objectives and goals for the area’s future.
Recognizing that last year’s incorporation study left emotions high and the community divided, the Poinciana Area Council launched in January 2010 the effort to refocus for the future.
Several business and community leaders met on Feb. 11 at the PepsiCo Gatorade plant on Poinciana Boulevard to join forces in a nonpartisan approach toward distinguishing and determining the issues that today are crucial for tomorrow’s success.
The Leadership Summit was followed by two more summit meetings, where community and business leaders through open dialogue committed to making the Greater Poinciana Area “Tomorrow’s Community.”
The group is now in the process of organizing a community-wide event where all members of the Greater Poinciana Area may attend and personally give input in the visioning process. The visioning event, scheduled for Thursday, July 15, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Liberty High School, will be a unique opportunity for all residents and businesses to determine priorities for the future. These priorities will be conveyed to our local, state and federal representatives and offer a way to unite for common goals.
Mark the date and plan on attending.

Contrary to a local television news report, Primary Care Medical Services of Poinciana, which is part of the Osceola County Health Department, will not close. This clinic opened under a federal grant and the terms of the grant prohibit the closing of it.
Poinciana was deemed to be an underserved community, with a high number
of uninsured individuals. Because of this, Primary Care Medical Services of Poinciana will not be considered for closing.

A special teens only event will be Monday from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Poinciana Branch Library. Find your inner sleuth and come watch “Sherlock Holmes,” rated PG-13.
Wednesdays at the library include special sessions for the younger set, from toddlers to elementary school-age. Toddler Tales are for ages 18 months to pre-school and happens at 10 a.m. Toddler Tales includes story time, songs and finger-play. Pre-School Rockin’ Readers is a group for children ages 3 to 5 and is at 11 a.m. Kidz Kaboom is not a new cereal. It’s a club for school-age children at the Poinciana Library from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, May 19, at 9 a.m., a car seat safety check will begin at the library. Osceola County Fire/Rescue will be inspecting car seats. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that eight out of 10 car seats are improperly installed.
In addition to the free car seat safety check, a few car seats will be available for purchase at a discounted rate of $35. These are brand new convertible and high-back boosters, usually with names like Cosco or Evenflo.
You can do it all this month at the library-get your children involved, check your car seta, and even check out a book.
