Water polo over

The water polo season came to an end last weekend for Osceola’s boys and girls teams, and Gateway’s girls, at the District 3 tournament at Winter Park.

The Kowboys reached the championship match by defeating University, 10-7, in the semifinal round.

Osceola, 16-6, was led by Zack Yawn and Cameron Wehr, who each scored three goals. Yawn had four steals, and goalkeeper Demitrius San Roman made nine saves.

The Kowboys lost the championship match to Dr. Phillips, 18-2.

Gateway’s girls dropped a 17-1 decision to Orlando Boone, and OHS fell to Dr. Phillips, 12-6, in the girls semifinal round.

Lifters place 5th

Harmony’s Dominic DeMunno and Poinciana’s Keith Stevenson placed fifth  in their weight class at last weekend’s state weightlifting meets at New Port Richey.

DeMunno bench-pressed 240 pounds and lifted 215 in the clean and jerk for a season-high 455-pound total in at 129 pounds in Class 2A. Stevenson, in the Class A meet held last Saturday, went 205-140-345 in the 119-pound division.

They each earned two points, putting Harmony 27th in the 2A team standings and Poinciana in 28th in Class A.

Tavarus Alcime was ninth in 169 pounds (300-245-545) for Poinciana in Class A. The county’s other lifters in Class 2A were:

Harmony: Justin McCullough (139 pounds, 255-190-445, 11th), Hunter White (219, 360-260-620, 10th), Julian Rivera (heavyweight, 380-265-645, 10th); St. Cloud: Nate Green (154, 280-245-525, seventh), Ray Scavone (169, 245-235—480, 12th); Liberty — Louis Cruz (238, 345-285—630, seventh).
