County installs speed control devices
Osceola County recently installed speed radar signs, also known as driver feedback signs, in the Indian Point community.
The signs are traffic-calming devices installed as part of a countywide effort to increase driver awareness and improve safety by slowing traffic throughout the county’s neighborhoods.
“Our goal is that these signs will remind drivers to slow down and exercise caution, both for their safety and the safety of the residents in Indian Point,” Commissioner Michael Harford said.
In addition to the two signs at Indian Point, other solar-powered signs have been permanently installed in the Buenaventura Lakes area and in Celebration at a cost of approximately $4,700 each, which includes installation, county officials stated in a press release.
“The signs will not only make motorists aware of their speeds when driving through our neighborhoods, but can also provide data which can be used to monitor speeds and traffic counts on the roadways,” Harford said. “This information could then be given to law enforcement to further discourage speeding.”

BVL center guidelines set
Osceola County commissioners at their April 5 meeting finalized the rules for resident use of the recently renovated Robert Guevara Community Center in Buenaventura Lakes.
The rules include:
• Reservations may be made up to 12 months in advance for any available date and a security deposit of $150 is due at the time the reservation is made.
• All functions must be sponsored by a specific individual who will be directly responsible for all arrangements and the individual making the arrangements must attend the event.
• Free use by residents or nonprofits is limited to two times each calendar year in order to provide the entire Buenaventura Lakes community the opportunity to use the building. Also, the county manager may make a determination that it is in the best interest of the community to lift the usage restriction based on a written request.

City changes meeting schedule
The city of Kissimmee has announced that the City Commission voted unanimously April 6 to change the schedule for the Commission meetings.
The meetings changed from being held on each Tuesday to being held on the first and third Tuesdays at 6 p.m. If the city had urgent business then the City Manager may call an informal regular meeting on any Tuesday. The next official Commission meeting will be Tuesday, May, 4.
The decision is the result of the downturn in the economy and fewer items being listed on the meeting agendas. Consolidating the meetings would enhance efficiency in the city’s operations.
