Kissimmee Utility Authority won six awards recently at the 2010 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Orlando Museum of Art. The Image Awards competition recognizes companies that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of public relations programming: research, planning, execution and evaluation. An Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in a category. A Judges' Award is presented to an outstanding entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money.
In the crisis communications category, KUA received an Image Award for its 2009 hurricane preparedness campaign. The campaign – which included advertising, electronic restoration alerts, neighborhood meetings and a printed hurricane guide – was developed to train and communicate preparedness information to the residents of Osceola County. The total campaign cost averaged just 38 cents per utility customer.
In the poster and calendar category, KUA received an Image Award for its 2010 calendar of energy conservation. The annual calendar featured the artwork of Osceola County students in an effort to support and encourage the conservation of electricity among utility customers. Copies of the calendar – 12,000 in all – were provided free of charge to utility customers.
In the other printed tools category, KUA received an Image Award and Judges’ Award for its 2009 Osceola Hurricane Handbook. Produced in both English and Spanish, the 40-page guide contained information on hurricanes and floods as well as emergency telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and hurricane tracking chart. The guides were developed at a cost of just 32 cents per utility customer. The hurricane guide can be accessed at http://www.kua.com/hurricane.
In the electronic presentation category, KUA received an Image Award and Judges’ Award for its 2008 interactive annual report, titled “Hometown Solutions.” Developed as an informational resource, the report treated visitors to a whimsical online experience and allowed them to learn more about the utility while exploring the Kissimmee area along the way.
