Daniel Loggins

Loggins

A handcuffed 16-year-old kicked and attempted to headbutt an Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputy Tuesday afternoon before escaping from custody, which caused the lockdown of two nearby Poinciana schools.

Deputies came in contact with Daniel Loggins as they responded to calls from neighbors about a suspicious juvenile riding his bike on Canterbury Court in Poinciana.

When deputies spoke with Loggins, he initially gave his correct name but then provided a false one, a misdemeanor charge. As the deputies attempted to put him in the patrol car, he kicked one of them and tried to hit the officer with his head. Still in handcuffs, Loggins fled, running into a wooded area near the homes, toward Peabody Road and Marigold Avenue.

As a precaution, Poinciana Elementary School and Discovery Middle School were put on lockdown as deputies looked for Loggins.

Deputies found Loggins at around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night at the corner of Marigold Avenue and KOA Street in Poinciana. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Osceola County Juvenile Detention Center.

He was charged with escape, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting without violence. Loggins has been arrested before on drug-related charges but does not have a violent criminal history, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
