Several Osceola County athletes walked away with 3A-6 and 4A-4 district track championships at Celebration and Winter Park, advancing to regional meets next week.
Oak Ridge (243 points) dominated the 3A-6 girls meet Wednesday at Celebration over Harmony (97),  Celebration (4th, 68.5), St. Cloud (5th, 51) and five other teams.
Edgewater (132.5) won the boys team title. Celebration (3rd, 107), Harmony (4th, 73) and St. Cloud (5th, 66.5) followed.
At the 4A-4 meet at Winter Park Thursday, Boone (141) won the boys title. Liberty (3rd, 106), Osceola (7th, 34) and Gateway (9th, 22.5) competed.
Winter Park’s (142) girls won. Defending champion Osceola (80) was fourth. Liberty (6th, 51) and Gateway (7th, 39) followed.
Local athletes excelled in the field events at Celebration, where St. Cloud’s Diana Martinez won the shot put (36-3.75) and discus (117-6) titles.
“Diana was obviously the brightest spot of our day, winning the shot and discus,” St. Cloud Coach Kevin Harkema said.
Celebration pole vaulter Jessica Harter set a personal and county record with a leap of 11-7 for first place. She had the best vault among both girls and boys competitors. Celebration took the top three spots in the girls pole vault with Lauren Caban (7-6) and Kristen Taylor (7-0) placing second and third, respectively.
Harter, a sophomore, worked hard for her district title.
“I jumped 17 times, so I’m a little tired,” she said. “It’s good that the team did so well. Lauren had her best vault.”
Celebration’s Andrew Abrams (11-3) won the boys pole vault, and teammate Martin Rios (10-6) was the runner-up.
Harmony discus thrower Chris Bolinger (174-7) came within two inches of Nate Donley’s school record in winning the district title. He was fourth (45-0) in the shot put.
“I just told him to get the first one in to get a distance, then after that he could let it fly,” Harmony throws coach Steve Landram said. “I’ve heard of kids who potentially could win a state championship who scratched three times and couldn’t get out
of the district. We wanted
to avoid that situation at
all costs.”
The top four in each event advance to the 3A-2 regional meet 1 p.m. Thursday at Harmony.
Celebration’s boys boasted district champions in 110 meters hurdler Marcus George (14.79) and Tyler Osorio (49.79) at 400 meters.
Osorio was second (24.23) at 200 meters, one spot ahead of St. Cloud’s James Boone (22.45). Boone (11.26) was fourth at 100 meters.
Harmony’s Daniel Foshee (15.57) was second in the 110 meters hurdles.
Samantha Travis (12:20.38) won at 3,200 meters for Harmony, and Brittany Connor (5:33.52) was second at 1,600 meters. Chelsea Connor (12:23.15) was third at 3,200 meters, and the Lady Longhorns 4 x 800 team was second (10:07.26). St. Cloud (10:08.67) was third in the 4 x 800.
Harmony (8:17.7) and St. Cloud (8:19.91) were third and fourth, respectively, in the boys 4 x 800.
“Sam did well in the 2-mile (3,200), and Brittany did really well in the 1,600, a personal record and a new school record,” Harmony Coach Debra Schweiger said. “Marie did well, also. She got her personal best in the 400. The 4 x 800 team did a good job of staying consistent with their best time. The boys 4 x 800 was a surprise. We  broke the school record by two seconds.”
St. Cloud’s 4 x 800 may be better at the regional meet,  Harkema said.
“We had the lead after the third exchange, and our final leg did not run well at all,” he said. “I’m confident we will put everything together at regionals. Our girls 4 x 800 had the biggest improvement by setting their best (time) by 20 seconds.”
Celebration (4:19.7) was third and Harmony (4:28.49) finished fourth in the girls 4 x 400. The Celebration boys (3:26.42) were third in the 4 x 400.
Also qualifying for Celebration’s boys were Zack Brown (6-0) and Chilly Cancela (6-0) in the high jump, Sebastian Gonzalez (52.09) at 400 meters   and Cancela (41-9) in the triple jump.
Celebration Coach Joel Fox said his team performed well.
“I’m very happy. This was our best meet of the year in terms of all of our athletes clicking at the same time,” he said. “I think Ty, Marcus and both vaulters have a great chance at regional, and I think it’s an advantage for us running close to home.”
St. Cloud’s Sean Wood (2:01.19) was third in the 800, Luke Gardner (41.32) was fourth in the 300 meters hurdles and Carlos Perez (4:40.97) was fourth at 1,600 meters.
Harmony’s Jared Beekman (2:00.95) was second in the 800, Carsten Sherrod (45-1.25) was third in the shot put, Brad Foulke (140-3.5) was third in the discus and Michael Driscoll (9-6) was fourth in the pole vault.
Celebration’s Elizabeth Jackson (4-10) finished fourth in the high jump and Devon Foushee-McCaffrey (17.45) was fourth in the 100 hurdles.
St. Cloud’s Anaya Reid (2:28.38) was fourth at 800 meters.
Harmony’s Katie Moschouris (6-0) in the pole vault, Kendall Pollock (94-3) and Hannah Brown (92-10) in the discus, Brown (32-3) in the shot put and Marie Gilbert (1:03.64) in the 400 all advanced to the regional meet.
At the 4A-4 district meet Thursday at Winter Park’s Showalter Field, Osceola sprinter Tynia Gaither won the 100 (12.18) and 200 meters  (24.61) races. She is the defending 100 meters state champion.
Osceola’s Jameshia Gant (15.16) won the 100 hurdles and placed second (49.07) at 300 meters.
Gateway’s Audreen Robinson (32-11) was the triple jump champion. She was third (1:01.62) at 400 meters.
Liberty’s Keila Naules (5-0) was second in the high jump and the long jump (16-8.75).
No Osceola County boys won district championships, but all three Liberty relay teams advanced.
Liberty hurdler Jean Leon was second (32.19) at 300 meters and third (15.28) at 100 meters.
Hudson Cadet (6-4) was second in the high jump.
Liberty’s Robbie Johnroe advanced in the 1,600 (4th, 4:28.48) and 3,200 (4th, 9:50.29) runs.
Osceola sprinter Defario Phillips was third (10.93) at 100 meters and fourth at 200 meters.
Osceola’s 4 x 100 relay (43.22)  placed third.
The 4A-1 regional  is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Winter Park.
Poinciana’s regional qualifiers competed at Lake Highland Prep Thursday. The top four there move on to the Class 2A state meet May 1 at Winter Park.
