The Central Florida Division of the March of Dimes is hosting 2010 Osceola March for Babies on Saturday, May 1.  March for Babies will take place at Makinson Aquatic Center at 2201 Denn John Lane, next to the Osceola campus of Valencia Community College in Kissimmee. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the walk starts at 8 a.m. After the walk, the city of Kissimmee will have an assortment of activities, food and a duck derby to help raise additional funds for the March of Dimes.
Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan and St. Cloud Mayor Donna Hart are  the 2010 Osceola March for Babies Honorary chairs and will be hosting this year’s March for Babies.
“March for Babies is truly a wonderful event for the entire family to come out and support the city of Kissimmee in leading the fight in keeping our babies healthy in our community,” Swan said.
Hart added, “I am co-chairing March for Babies because they provide the research needed to find cures for other causes I support such as A Day For Hearts: Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Day in St. Cloud which is proclaimed on Feb. 14 every year.
Congenital heart defects affect millions of newborns and children worldwide and it is the leading cause of birth defects-related death during the first year of life. A relatively small amount of funding is available for parent and patient educational services, research, and support and the March for Babies assists this cause.  I encourage all residents to form teams, bring family members, co-workers, friends, and neighbors to help create public awareness and support this worthy cause. What can be more important than improving our babies’ health by helping to extend infant mortality? We all can make a difference in our community. These children are our future.”
Interested walkers and donors can visit www.marchforbabies.org or call 407-599-5077 to sign up as an individual, start a corporate, family or friend’s team, donate or sponsor March for Babies to help babies be born healthy.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.  With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies.
