A man, who reportedly shot at Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies as they came to investigate possible drug activity at a residence Thursday, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after deputies returned fire.

At around 1:12 a.m., the agency received an anonymous tip about drug activity at the house at 740 Country Woods Circle, Kissimmee, located off Simpson Road. Deputies went to investigate, one of them knocking on the door several times.

A man inside opened the door and fired a shot at the uniformed deputy. That deputy and another near the driveway returned fire. The man was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for his injuries. Deputies questioned three other residents in the home.

No deputies were injured. However, following standard procedure, the two deputies involved have been put on paid leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Sheriff's Office investigate the shooting.

A small amount of marijuana and some weapons were found at the house after detectives obtained a search warrant. Detectives have not determined if the weapons are legal and no arrests have been made.

As of press time Friday, the resident involved in the shooting had not been identified. Investigations into the drug activity and shooting are ongoing.
