On March 17, Bishop Grady Villas celebrated a “lucky” St. Patrick’s Day for its second annual Achieving Their Dreams fundraising luncheon at The Ballroom at Church Street in Orlando.
The luncheon raised more than $64,000 and qualified for a matching challenge grant of $23,500 from the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation.
Bishop Grady Villas, located in St. Cloud, provides a loving, caring, Christian residential community and employment services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all faiths.
Guests at the luncheon were treated to an inspiring opening video that included a parade of residents holding signs that identified their accomplishments in their jobs, participating in Special Olympics, volunteering to help others and participating in their community.
Steve Davis, chairman of Bishop Grady Villas’ board of directors, and Laura, a resident at the villas, served as the luncheon’s masters of ceremonies.
Kevin Johnson, executive director, shared important milestones that have been accomplished over the past year including the residents’ focus on living healthier lifestyles, which has resulted in residents having lost a combined total of 305 pounds.
As a gift to the 300 guests who attended the luncheon, residents passed out their very own “Recipes for Living Healthy Lives,” which included their recipe for St. Theresa’s Flatbread Pizza and a packet of herbs grown by the residents in the Dr. Phillips Plant Nursery.
Guests also were invited to get more involved with Bishop Grady Villas by volunteering, conducting a Wish List Drive, volunteering for the annual Harvest Ball gala or by making a financial investment in the mission.
