Mark Kessler, of Michigan Avenue Elementary School in St. Cloud, positions himself close to westbound traffic on U.S. Highway 192 during a teacher rally against Senate Bill 6 and House Bill 7189, legislation passed recently by the Florida Senate and House that would replace teacher tenure with merit pay based on student testing.

Approximately 100 educators joined forces Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Bill Beck Boulevard for the event. As of press time, Gov. Charlie Crist had not made his decision to approve or veto the bill.
