The Texas Hold ’em Charity Classic County Poker series, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kissimmee, is continuing with the final two qualifying tournament games scheduled for Thursday, April 15 and April 29.
The top eight players from each tournament series game will have a seat at the county championship scheduled for Thursday, May 6. All tournament games will be played at the Barney E. Veal Center, 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee, and doors open at 6:15 p.m. with play beginning at 7 p.m.
Arrive early to register and to enjoy food and refreshments as part of the donated registration fee. Players can register at the door for one night for a $60 donation. Each of the top eight players finishing each night will receive a prize valued of at least $100. Each player is “staked” a chip allotment and players eliminated early are gathered into a consolation round so players are guaranteed plenty of card games to hone their playing skills. The winner of the consolation game also is guaranteed a seat at the championship on May 6.
The charity classic does more than determine who is the best player in the county, it also helps raise money for five local charities: Heavenly Hoofs, Salvation Army of Osceola, Osceola County Council on Aging, the YMCA of Osceola County and the Boy Scouts. The charities will be present during the tournament to share information about their missions and services in the community.
The tournament games provide an opportunity for novice and experienced players to match their skill and luck, all for the good of the community. More than a dozen sponsors are currently participating. Last year, the Rotary Club of Kissimmee donated more than $20,000 for local charities, for dictionaries for all third-graders and for student scholarships.
