One of only a handful of educators selected from across the country, Karen Seddon, of the Osceola County School District has been named a Discovery Education Certified Instructor.
In this role, Seddon, a technology coach at Denn John Middle School in Kissimmee,  will provide effective professional development to educators across the nation, teaching the strategies and techniques educators need to integrate the latest educational technologies and digital content into their curriculum and improve student academic achievement.  Discovery Education is a division of Discovery Communications, whose networks include Discovery Channel, Science Channel and Animal Planet.
“Classrooms across the country are being transformed by an unprecedented influx of educational technologies and digital content,” Scott Kinney, Discovery Education vice president of global outreach and learning initiatives, said. “Discovery Education Certified Instructors like Karen are teaching educators across the nation how best to utilize these new tools to engage students in learning.  I congratulate Karen on this distinction, and commend her good work and efforts to improve student academic achievement.”
During her 35 years in education, Seddon has served at the district level as the project manager for the Florida Digital Educator Program, as the South Florida Field Manager for the Discovery Educator Network, as an instructional technology specialist and at the school level as a classroom teacher in New Jersey, Louisiana and Florida.
“I’m excited to have been chosen as a Discovery Education Certified Instructor,” Seddon said.  “Forward thinking administrators across the country are empowering teachers to reach today’s students with digital content and educational technologies.  I’m proud to be supporting teachers with effective professional development in this era of tremendous change.”
Discovery Education promotes the use of digital content in the classroom for both teaching and learning, but understands that the successful integration of media and technology are only part of a larger initiative requiring high-quality ongoing professional development for educators at all levels.  Recognizing this, Discovery Education focuses on creating custom professional development solutions utilizing extensive in-person and on-line programming.
