For 15 senior players, girls basketball season didn’t end in the district or regional playoffs.
Those players get one more chance to take to the hardwood for today’s inaugural Osceola County Senior All-Star Game at Poinciana High School.
The game begins at 5 p.m., with a 3-point shooting contest at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students.
St. Cloud High’s Shanel Davidson will coach the East division, and Osceola’s Barner Cooks, who spearheaded the event, will coach the West.
“It’s important for us to put on a good event so it grows next year,” he said. “It’s a way of representing our county’s players.”
Davidson, who played in an event like this in her native Indiana, said she wants this to be an annual event.
“I want to see this carry on as a tradition. We’ll have a lot of seniors next year.”
The rosters are:
East — Gateway: Carla Garcia, Mirian Ruiz, Helen Collazo; Harmony: Katy Clark, Leah Smith; St. Cloud: Diana Martinez; Life Academy: Brittney Livengood; Heritage Christian: Arrissa Agnant.
West — Poinciana: Breanna Garrett, Weslee Aristor; Osceola: Sarah DiLeonardo, Hazel Beatto, Constance Uzzle, Jessica Nelson; Celebration: Mallory Gebers.
Uzzle, Nelson, DiLeonardo, Gebers, Garcia, Collazo and Smith will compete in the three-point contest.
Coaches from Warner Southern, Webber, Brevard Community College, Flagler and St. Leo may attend.
