The Orange Belt Conference softball championship is on the line today at 7 p.m. when Osceola visits Harmony.
Both teams are unbeaten in the conference.
Osceola, 12-4, is capping a busy two-week stretch that has seen the team play eight times.
The Kowgirls lost back-to-back 5A District 5 games against Sebring (12-11) Monday and Haines City (5-2) Tuesday, snapping a five-game winning streak.
OHS was scheduled to play state runner-up Lake Wales Wednesday before today’s game at Harmony.
“I have to give it to our kids for their character and tenacity, because it has been a brutal stretch. I know they’re bone tired, because I am, but every game they come out and give it everything they have,” OHS Coach George Coffey said.
Bianca Torres was 5-for-5 at Sebring Monday when OHS scored four times in the seventh and had the potential tying run thrown out at third base.
OHS beat St. Cloud, 12-2, Friday in an Orange Belt Conference game.
Harmony downed St. Cloud, 18-1, Monday to raise its record to 7-3 as Lauren Harris went 3-for-3 with a home run and 5 RBIs, while Breann Vanderzyl had three hits and four RBIs.
“This week is a real good chance to see where we measure where we are going with the (Kissimmee) Klassic next week,” Coach Ralph King said. “Hopefully, we can continue to perform the way we did (Monday).”
OHS won last year, 2-1.
“It’s always a close game when we play them. They’ve got a lot of talented players over there and that’s what makes it fun,” Coffey said.
St. Cloud, 9-5, rebounded to beat Poinciana, 13-0, Tuesday as Brianna Benge had three hits and Sam Gale struck out 10.
Celebration lost a heartbreaker to unbeaten Eustis (14-0) Tuesday when the Panthers’ Cassie Wolf hit a three-run, two-out home run in the bottom of the seventh.
