A Kissimmee man was arrested Tuesday for child abuse for making his girlfriend's 6-year-old child kneel in a corner on bottle caps as punishment for receiving a sad face on his school agenda.

Jose Ferrer, 41, charged with child abuse and domestic violence, was booked into the Osceola County Jail with no bond.

Kissimmee police began an investigation after a Cypress Elementary School teacher called to report bruises on one of her students. The 6-year-old told police he had been made to kneel on bottle caps as punishment for misbehaving at school.

Detectives interviewed Ferrer, who is the live-in boyfriend of the boy's mother. Ferrer said he had the child kneel on the bottle caps for several minutes. Based on that information, detectives arrested him.
